The Little Mermaid’s fairy tale had a happy ending… but not for her. Now she lives a secluded life away from her people, angry at the world, courting danger at every turn, and daring death to find her. When a handsome prince is exiled on her lonely island, he offers her a chance to pay the world back, asking for her aid in his battle against the oppressive Hieromancers of Atlantis. But can she trust him? Or is he simply the next charming prince in line to betray her?

This isn’t the Little Mermaid from your childhood stories. No happily ever after for our little Mermaid following the events of Damsels. Matt Sturges captures the despair of a the broken heart and the risk taking that may follow.  The tale moves along at a comfortable pace setting a foundation for the story to follow.

Jean Paul Deshong brings both the undersea world and the surface world to life, displaying the beauty and the ugliness of both.  Gone are the bright colorful talking fish and crustaceans, in their place are sharks, seals, and common fish.  Ship wrecks and sunken cities.  Beaches, ships, boats and bars.

It will be interesting to see what Sturges has in mind for the adventure our little mermaid is setting feet and tail to. Will it be one that brings some peace to her broken heart? Or will it get her into even more pain, danger and trouble.
