Dark Of the Night
In the dark of the night
We search our heart
Questioning things we have done
In the dark of the night
We open the doors we have closed
Examining the ghost of our past
Pain and heartbreak we face once more
Trying in vain to find the answer
To understand the mire
Our Life has become
Surely buried among the bones
Mixed in with the dust of the past
Must be the key
The key that will unlock the secrets
In the dark of the night
Tears making twin paths down our face
Mixing with the dust of the day
Rivers of pain contained in the Tears
Past and Present Mixing
Blending and blurring
The ghosts haunting
The murk of the shadows hiding
The key so necessary for happiness
In the dark of the night
We wander lost in our pain
Begging for release
Searching in vain for the truth
To how on life can contain
As much pain as this life contains
In the dark of the night
We consider surrender
Consider the release
That surrender promises to provide
In the dark of the night
Alone with the ghosts and shadows
We consider the pain we would cause
And face the truth
We would rather live our pain
Than cause another to suffer so
In the dark of the night
We accept the truth
We may never find the key
It may not even exist
This key to our own happiness
In the dark of the night
We accept defeat
And for at least this night
Allow the tears to wash away
The pain that will return with the dawn
