Matt Hawkins of Top Cow has a Huge Heart…

Do you ever wonder why I love the people at Top Cow Productions as much as I do? Don’t get me wrong there are people at other comic book companies that I think rock too, but Top Cow seems to have pulled together some of the coolest people with the biggest HEARTS!

Take a look at what Matt Hawkins has decided to do after working on Think Tank Fun with PTSD #1. If you aren’t already aware, Matt does a ton of research for each issue.

This book isn’t just pulled out of thin air and his imagination. It is based on reality with some twists and dreaming thrown in. But it is all plausible.

Wounded Warrior ProjectAfter researching PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) for this book he decided he was going to contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project which helps… you got it Wounded Warriors, you know VETS. Well that wasn’t enough for Matt, he thought some more and well here are his own words (from Matt’s post on Facebook) …

An announcement of sorts! In writing Think Tank Fun with PTSD #1 I learned a lot about the tragedy of combat related PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and traumatic brain injury to our soldiers. Watching 250 pound buff-as-all-hell veterans breaking down into tears in some of the video research I got my hands on was heartbreaking. I made a donation on my own to the Wounded Warrior Project a couple days ago. Wrapping up the book today before I head down to Wondercon tomorrow, I decided that I want to do more. So I’m going to donate $.25 per copy sold and a proportionate amount (to price) for digital copies downloaded of Think Tank Fun with PTSD #1 (in stores 5/14) to the Wounded Warrior Project. This won’t be millions, I realize that, but it’ll be pretty much all the money I would have made on the book.

Every little bit helps. Help spread the word about:

And as a general FYI, publishers make about 40% of cover price and with that they have to cover printing, freight, creative costs and any affiliated overhead. I get asked that from time to time.

THANK YOUR FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Matt Hawkins - Think Tank Fun with PTSD #1He could have left it at his initial contribution, but instead he has gone above and beyond and also is contributing what would have been his earnings for the hard work he did on the book that opened his eyes to a better understanding of PTSD.  Not many people would do that, to me this takes heart.

So let’s help boost the contribution.  Let your local comic book shop know you want this book, make sure they will be ordering it for you and just by buying a book you will most certainly enjoy (I know I have loved every issue of Think Tank since it launched) you will also be helping an organization that is doing what it can to help our Wounded Warriors. Let’s show our wounded veterans that people that love comic books have HUGE HEARTS and care about helping others.
