Collects GREAT PACIFIC 1-6

When I first saw this series listed in Previews it intrigued me. A story involving the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, what will they do with this story? Will it be a preachy, don’t pollute story? Full of recycling and bashing those that don’t recycle? Or would it be something more, something intriguing and entertaining.

Now six issues in I am still enjoying the ride, so I would say it was something more.

From the moment I picked up the first issue and turned to the first page, I knew it was something special. So if you haven’t picked up the series and now are hesitant because it’s six issues in and you are having trouble locating all six issues, this is the perfect time to jump on. Pick up the trade get caught up on the story and be ready to hold on as we see where Joe Harris is going to take all of us.

Yes, six issues in and still wondering just where he plans on going and what will come next. That is the way a book should be. We should be able to anticipate what the writer has in mind. We should be on the edge of our seat eager to read the next issue. And that is the feeling I have every time I read an issue of Great Pacific.

Great Pacific Vol 1 panel imageDid I happen to mention the art of Martín Morazzo? His visualization of the floating island of trash makes an impact immediately. The scale of the island and you see Chas standing on a portion of it and can see what appears to be hills of garbage ranging behind him. Morazzo’s artistic style is in perfect alignment with the story and concept.

Would I recommend this book to a friend or a stranger? Most definitely. Not only is it a good story and a fun read, but it does plant in the back of the reader’s mind the global impact we have with all the trash we generate. So while the book is not preaching about recycling and reduction of waste, it still does manage to plant the idea, at least in my mind.

Final Score: 8/10
