When I first heard about the series I was a bit concerned. Would it feel like The X-Files? Could they capture the mystery, the character attitudes, the magic on paper? When I saw Joe Harris was writing it my concern moved to curiosity as I enjoy The Great Pacific, but that’s an original story and characters, this was a licensed property, could he pull it off?
Issue one has me thinking the answer to all the questions I just expressed is, yes! Now I realize this is just issue one, but if Harris has me more curious about where the story is going to go next instead of wondering if he could capture the feel of The X-Files then there is hope that this is going to be another hit.
Though at first I didn’t enjoy Michael Walsh’s art, not because it isn’t good as it is, but because it is simply not a style that I enjoy. But on reflection I’ve realized that the style of the art went a long way in making the book ‘feel’ like The X-Files that I enjoyed when it was on TV. I know I know it is not the same as watching TV but there is something about his lines combined with Jordie Bellaire’s colors that convey creepy.
This team has answered my question of whether a comic book can capture the ‘feel’ of The X-Files that I loved. Looking forward to seeing just where this team takes Mulder and Scully.
