SDCC Preview Night

Wolverine by Stjepan SejicWhat can I say? Preview Night got me again.  But before I get into that let’s talk of the magic.

The magic of being surrounded by so many people that love SDCC (or tolerate it to get the exclusives they want because we know that for some that is what it is all about)  For me it was being able to take time to say hi to people like Holly Golightly (some how I missed Jim Balent) of Broadsword comics, an annual tradition for us that their booth is the first stop of my con explorations.  Then on to Billy Tucci who made me feel awesome by commenting on my hair and saying it looked really good (had just had something a little different for me done that morning color wise so yes having a guy say something, especially an artist is cool) Then it was time to head over to Image, Top Cow, Boom, Archaia, IDW and say hi or wave at the folks I know there.  Some of the booths were such mad houses because of their exclusives that all that was possible was a wave and keep going.  Elena at Top Cow was nice enough to help me find AgentM (Ryan) at Marvel Now as I had never met him in person before only tweeted each other.  So now have managed to meed the man with SEEEKRITS in person.  (Now to try to weedle those seekrits out of him… though he seems to be amazing at  keeping them so we shall see)

Next was fighting the crowds as Elena and I made our way across the convention hall to a booth she needed to get to as she had to pick up her wristband or ticket or something for a signing today (more about that another time)  Spotted Brent Spiner at that booth but he was to busy for me to sneak in just to be able to shake his hand (not giving up, I will shake Data’s hand.

Left Elena there to keep making my way further down the convention hall to find Monte M Moore.  If you are wondering who that is, take a look at the image used in my logo.  Monte is the artist that created the original Vixenation piece for me that my logo art is taken from.  He hadn’t seen how she printed out on the business cards yet so I was looking forward to being able to hand him one.  Loved that he was impressed with how she turned out with the colors inverted.  She was originally drawn as a black on white not a white on black piece.

From there it was back to Top Cow to see more people including meeting Stjepan Sejic and his wife Linda (the sketch that is at the top of this piec)  Gave Matt Hawkins a hard time as I had been waiting to speak with Stjepan as he did a sketch for another fan and Matt hadn’t realized it.  So after chatting with Matt and others while Stjepan finished the sketch, Matt jumps in and starts chatting with him as soon as he finished.  I stood there for a few trying not to crack up before finally just giving him a hard time about jumping in like that when I had been waiting patiently.  (Good thing we get alone and he got a laugh out of it)

OK out of time but here is what I meant by Preview Night got me:

Got me?  Yes got me.  Seems that it never fails, that mad dash to get everything done. Everything packed, all the right power cords, lenses, filters, cards, clothes and even a case of water and Rockstars to try to minimize the hit of buying water at SDCC took it’s toll.  Part way through an amazing night of seeing friends old and new I hit the proverbial wall and had to find a corner to get out of the crowds and just sit still and rehydrate.

Will try to do some ‘Drive by’ posts today. Have a very busy schedule so even if I don’t manage to post much during the day there will be a summary and impressions later.

Oh don’t let me forget to tell you about the girl from Brazil I spoke with on the shuttle ride back to the hotel last night.

Ok got to run, have a meeting to go take photos of a bat-mobile inspired pick up truck for you all this morning.
