Southern California Comics Free Comic Book Day 2015 Blowout Bash

Free Comic Book Day 2015 - Southern California ComicsSouthern California Comics Free Comic Book Day 2015

There is doing Free Comic Book Day and there is doing Free Comic Book Day! Southern California Comics makes this a family affair and one not to be missed if you are in Southern California.

I must admit I regret that this is the first year I attended the blow out bash that is Free Comic Book Day at Southern California Comics. This was the biggest, best organized, best stocked Free Comic Book Day I have been to. My hat goes off to the team that pulled it all together. Extremely well stocked on the free comics, very organized on how to run the line so that everybody gets a chance to get through, which when you are attended by over 2000 (2014 attendance to early to have today’s count), you have to be organized or you will have pandemonium. Well planned, canopies over the area for the comics, the toy/misc vendors, the artists etc.

Even inside the store was busy, with plenty of staff to keep things going, answer questions and move the sales line along at a brisk pace which you don’t often see in a comic book store. But this team obviously has the routine down to a science and knew who should be where and even had one person calculating the total of the sales while the other would ring it up and run the cards. Cuts the time in half and let’s each focus on just the one piece which considering the sales they were doing was a wise move.

Chatted with a few of the artists and vendors, spent more than I had planned but I am going to write it off as the WonderCon dollars I didn’t get a chance to spend, so budget was not blown.

If you haven’t gone yet, you have less than an hour until the day is done for Southern California Comics. And if you missed it, well plan ahead. Mark your calendar for the first Saturday in May 2016 and don’t let anybody tell you that you need to do chores, run errands, wash your hair, fix the car, shop, sleep etc on Free Comic Book Day. After all this is the day for us all to check out new books, check out old books, bring along somebody who may not be into comics YET and turn them into another comic book reading fan. Let’s make sure that we do more than just pick up the free stuff, buy some things to so that our local shops stay open and the writers and artists keep producing the stories we love.

Now enough of my words, here are some photos from this morning. See what you missed and there was much more as there was a shaved ice truck, food truck and a deal with Societe Brewing.
