Having just read the story of the terrorist bombing in the Turkish Capital of Ankara my heart breaks, not just for those directly and indirectly impacted by this sick act of terror. But because if this continues on it will be humans that will bring about the downfall of the human race. It won’t be a pandemic or a natural disaster that will be the death of humans, but our own intolerance of those that are different than us. It will be our greed for what others have (or have access to) that we are willing to go to war to take from them. It will be our ignorance, our refusal to learn from the past (or others) and it will be our keeping silent when we see wrongs happening that will lead to our own downfall.
Having read the news of the terrorist bombing makes me wish my brother was back on US soil. Though he lives and works in a country that is currently stable, knowing he is overseas in a part of the world that bit by bit seems to be imploding I can’t help but worry and wonder how long before where he is destabilizes. But then I think would he really be safer in the US? Would the violence that we are experiencing ourselves not still be a risk? Would the insanity that occurred in Ankara not strike again in the US as it has before?
If we don’t want to see the world implode by our actions we need; to wise up! Stand up! Speak up! We need to be what brings the insanity to an end. If we continue to close our eyes because it is happening in another country, if we refuse to help the millions of people displaced as they try to escape the insanity that has overrun their country, if we continue to look at anybody that is different as a probable threat, then we are taking another step to the demise of the human race.
We need to step back and look at our similarities not our differences. We need to find how to survive with what we have without needing to forcefully take from others. We need to learn to help each other rather than turn our backs
Until we do, we have little hope of stemming the insanity that is overruning our world. We have little hope of saving the human race from itself. Rather than pour so much time, money and resources into developing bigger, better, deadlier ways of destroying ourselves we should be investing in our future. In the children. In better, cleaner sources of fuel. In restoring what we have destroyed.
Until we stop and take a serious look at what we are become we will be the tools of our own destruction.
The pain & cruelty humans are capable of inflicting upon each other is astounding. It is times like these I make myself remember that the human race is also capable of great compassion, great sacrifice for others human & not, great redemption. We need to encourage the greater side of our nation.
