Accountability isn’t something Dr. David Loren worried about before. Sheltered behind the manned concrete perimeter of CED, so long as he continued to fulfill his contractual obligation to create inventions of destruction, David never had to think twice about being an arrogant jerk. But right now, David is on the wrong side of the military’s good graces. And accountability is a bitch.
If there was ever a blurb that accurately described an upcoming issue it is the one above. Accountability is a bitch and Dr. David Loren has never worried about it before. To me, seeing how he is dealing with these consequences, how he is reacting to the traumatic final pages of issue 7, he is growing up.
Matt Hawkins has woven the genetic strings of this story like a true scientist. While some are ending others are clearly being lined up for the next arc.
What to say about Rahsan Ekedal’s amazing artistic renderings that I have not said before? Whether it is the brutality of man, the emotions happy or devastated or the adorable scenes with the cutest puppy in comics, his art is outstanding. He has managed to make Loren look dark and evil or touchingly fragile and human. Whether it is people, technology or my favorite puppy his art delivers panel after panel, page after page.
Without spoiling things I can tell you this is issue is amazing on many levels. Most notably is seeing a character that has been arrogant to say the least show his humanity and handled in such a real manner is amazing. It’s one thing to see this happen in a movie with an actor but to have a writer and artist successfully convey this on paper, that shows skills that are not often found in both members of a creative team.
Not sure how they manage it, but Hawkins and Ekedal appear to be getting better with each issue, which considering they were hot when they started this series is amazing. It has me hoping to see this series continue beyond the currently planned 12 issues.
This book has remained on my Must Read list since issue one and continues to consistently receive a rating of 10/10. This issue is no exception.
If you haven’t started reading this series, you should start. If you are reading it, get a friend to read it. Let’s spread the word and make the world a smarter place.
