MARVEL PROUDLY PRESENTS THOR
Marvel is excited to announce an all-new era for the God of Thunder in brand new series, THOR, written by Jason Aaron (Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin) complimented with art from Russell Dauterman (Cyclops).
This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s “big three” – Captain America, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe?
“The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription,” says Marvel editor Wil Moss. “The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”
Series writer Jason Aaron emphasizes, “This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
THOR is the latest in the ever-growing and long list of female-centric titles that continues to invite new readers into the Marvel Universe. This female THOR is the 8th title to feature a lead female protagonist and aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for Super Hero comic books in America: women and girls.

Editor’s Comments:
The news broke where? On The View, a daytime talk show on the ABC Network, which by the way is owned by Disney. Who else is owned by Disney? I know you know this one, it’s Marvel of course. Not the place you expect a change in the “casting” of a comic book character to be announced. That alone is a change, guess Thor has gone mainstream.
While I am thrilled to see Marvel making such an effort to target comics for women and girls, it does make me wonder… what does this change mean to the Marvel Movie Universe? Personally I will be making offerings to the Asgardians that this change does not carry over to the movie universe as I will happily admit to enjoying Chris Hemsworth as Thor immensely.
However, when a comic book company is owned by a movie studio, there is the presumption that the comics will feed the money making machine of the movies. Thus the needs of the movies may impact what may or may not be permitted to occur within the comic book pages. Meaning that you can’t necessarily cut off your superhero’s arm in the comic book, as that may not fit in with the plans for an upcoming movie(s). Many of us have heard that Marvel has their movie universe plans mapped out for quite a number of years, so I do have to wonder just what does this change mean for the future of not only Thor, Marvel comics universe but also the Marvel movie universe. Since I do not have the power of an oracle, I will have to wait with the rest of humanity to see just how this will play out.
Uh – she’s not Thor even if she gets the hammer – that’s his name it doesn’t come with the hammer! She’s now the God of Thunder. It’s not a new Thor at all Thor Odinson is still around!
Thor Odindaughter just doesn’t have the same ring to it
Actually following Scandinavian female form she’d be Thyra Odindottier.
