What would you have asked Stan Lee?

stan leeRecently I was sharing my amazing experiences at Stan Lee’s Comikaze with a friend. When I told the story of meeting Stan Lee and being unable to remember if I even said anything to him, he asked one question, “If you could have spoken, what would you have asked Stan Lee?” This stunned me as I had not given this any thought before. After pausing for a few moments contemplating his question my response was… “I don’t think I would have asked him anything. Instead I would have thanked him.” If it wasn’t for things he had done we might not have comics today. We might not have amazing comic book based movies today. And if we didn’t have either of those we definitely would not have comic cons today.

In the days since he asked me this question I have pondered it further, and have even had the Long Beach Comic and Horror Con which I attended yesterday.  My response if anything would be more adamant. My life would be so much poorer without the people I have had the pleasure and honor of getting to know through these events.  People like the amazing teams at Top Cow, IDW and Boom! Studios.  Then there is Monte M. Moore, whose art I have loved and collected for years. Jim Balent and Holly Golightly, who I look forward to seeing every year at San Diego Comic Con and are always one of the first booths I stop at on preview night just to say hi and catch up with.  Meeting many of the artists and writers who’s work I have admired for so long and never dreamt I would one day meet, such as; Marc Silvestri, Matt Hawkins, Joe Jusko,  Walter Simonson, Ken Kelly, Chris Achilleos, The list could go on and on, but I think you see what I am saying. Not only do I have endless entertainment through comics, art, comic book based TV and movies, but I also have experiences and friendships that I value beyond anything I could ever truly express. And it all goes back to the existence of comic books and all the things that they fuel.

So I still would not have asked Stan Lee anything, I would simply and humbly have thanked him for all he has done to ensure this medium survived and provided so much pleasure to so many.

And, the one thank you I did manage, through my shock and tears and overwhelming emotions was to the friend that made that meeting happen, thank you again Bridget.  Every time I think about what you did, how you surprised me, my eyes start to well up with happy tears.  I only wish my brain could have functioned better when I had the opportunity so I could have said to the Generalissimo what I am trying to convey here.  Thank You!

Maybe if I am very lucky Stan Lee will read this, and the words I was in to much shock and surprise to say to him at Comikaze, he will read here and know that these words are from the bottom of my heart with happy tears in my eyes… THANK YOU!

I almost forgot, don’t know how … this site wouldn’t exist if not for all of the above, so thank you for giving me things and people to write about and photograph.  Writing and photography are things that feeds my soul, so it is definitely something I am grateful for.
