A Squirrel of a Day
Have you ever had the kind of day, week, month or year where you just need to get out of your own head space? That was me today. It’s been an insane few months and the past week left me needing an escape. The squirrel in many of these shots managed to help accomplish that as watching him dash about the sand and even find a strawberry or two to feast upon made me smile.
I wasn’t sure where I was going to go, but as I headed out the door to get coffee I noticed storm clouds rather than the typical San Diego blue sky so I quickly grabbed the camera bag just in case. I did neglect to check if there was a notepad in the bag so there was no writing done while I was out. But that’s ok I ended up succeeding for at least a couple hours to get out of my headspace.
Once coffee was acquired it was a quick trip out to Carlsbad to hit the walkway along the ocean. Was a bit blustery out there, and being that it is rare to need a jacket in San Diego of course I had none but I wasn’t going to let that stop me. Walking along the ocean I spotted some beach volleyball going on (even a cool breeze was not going to stop them from enjoying the game) so I headed in that direction to watch the games and just enjoy listening to the laughter as they just had fun (isn’t that the way sports are supposed to be?)
After going back for the car (and my drink) I ended up on the other end of the volleyball courts right by the extra lifeguard towers and one of the areas where I think the squirrels live among the boulders. Sure enough it wasn’t long before I was enjoying the antics of one of the daring squirrels as he dashed around and even found some strawberries in the sand (note to self bring fruit for the squirrels since they seem to like it). He was quite an entertaining little guy and I wish I had managed to catch a shot of him as he sniffed around one of the volleyballs almost as though he was trying to determine if it was a very oversized fruit of some kind.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.
