Day 1 of WonderCon is done and gone. It was a day packed of sights, people, fun and exhaustion. I haven;t seen the numbers for the day but I swear there were more people attending day one than there were last year. And definitely more than were attending the first year WonderCon was in Anaheim. Yes the crowds can at times get frustrating… you know when you are trying to get from point A to point B in a hurry. (Or worse yet when you really need the restroom but there is already a long line and the floor hasn’t even opened yet)
But the crowds are made up for by all the fun. The fun of seeing people that you may not have seen for months (if you are at different cons on the same weekends) or even those people that you have loved their work but never dreamed you would get the opportunity to actually meet in person. OR better yet get to speak with. OR better even than that if you become fortunate enough to connect with them and develop a friendship following that initial meeting (it can happen I am happy to say) Then when you come to the next con you aren’t just happy to see somebody who’s work you love but now you are happy to see a friend as well. But I digress…
Day 1, what can I say. There was the parenting done right of a family that all came as characters out of Dr. Who, Dalek, Weeping Angel, Seer (?) and an Ood. Th Harley Quinn that played up to the camera, even doing one of the expressions I had just thought of right as I thought it. The milling throngs of cos-players and people watchers (and photogs of course) out front of the convention center. And so much more.
There was being spotted by artists, writers, friends and even other photographers that you meet at the various cons time after time and being greeted by them before you even see them.
There are the food trucks (which you must try the burger one, had an awesome dinner from that one last night) that save you the trouble of trying to get to/from the local restaurants.
There is more than I can tell you now because you know what is about to happen? That’s right DAY 2 and I am only partially ready to head out the door because I wanted to stop in here a moment to give you a snap shot of the first day and a few teaser images. (Many more to come once WonderCon is done of course)
