Long Beach Comic Horror Con 2013 – Saturday a day in photos

Long Beach Comic Horror Con 2013Long Beach Comic Horror Con 2013

A smaller con that is perfect for a relaxed pace and time to catch up with friends or to meet new ones. It’s not to big and it’s not to small, guess that makes it just the right size for a nice escape.

Personally after SDCC, I find I enjoy going to a few smaller cons to slow down.  Just as the ones leading into SDCC are nice for getting back into the pace and getting ready for SDCC.  But more than that I love being able to chat with the artists and writers, something I don’t get to do as much at during a larger con simply because time is to short.  Everybody is busy, myself included, so coming to Long Beach, listening to the excitement in fans voices as they get to chat with their favorites, is wonderful.  I heard so many comments along the lines of “I met you the first time at ____” and they would name the event and year.  It was wonderful, especially when you saw the light in their eyes of pure joy.

Had a few of those moments myself, not quite the “I met you the first time at____” but the “OMG I never imagined I would get to meet you, I’ve loved your work for years”  Yes that was my reaction to coming across Chris Achilleos and Ken Kelly at the Infected by Art booth.  Getting to finally meet Amanda Conner, this after getting Jimmy Palmiotti to ham it up a little for the camera.  Some I have seen and chatted with before, others it was the first time of meeting them in person.  But just like just about everybody else there, I had moments of pure joy mixed in with a lot of eye candy, both the art kind and the cosplay kind.

I don’t know if it is simply the reduction in crowd levels at these smaller cons, but I find the cosplay much more fun to spot and photography.  There was the Loki that was unbelievable with the believability of even his facial expressions, the Tony Stark that responded with just the right answer when I commented after photographing hiim, that he didn’t look to have done to well in the fight… “You should see the other guy!”  The Lady Thor, the Harley Quinns (yes there were a few) including the cutest little girl dressed as Harley. The Spiderman adjusting his costume that I caught looking instead like he was in trouble, on his knees his hands in front of his neck.

The best part was, no matter where you looked you saw something wonderful and people having a good time.

Have you debated about going to a smaller con? Wondered if it would be worth it? Well if it was the Long Beach Comic Horror Con I hope you decided it was otherwise you missed out on a great time.

Here are just some of the wonderful people and things you would have seen if you had gone:
