Dr. David Loren’s work on the 36 barrel/600 rounds per minute Metalstorm led to an epiphany that he no longer wanted to create inventions of destruction for the military. But David has lived a sheltered life behind the barricades of a government-contracted think tank and has never directly been forced to come face to face with the deadly consequences of his actions… until now.

When I first read this issue I will confess I sent Matt Hawkins a one word review via email.  What was that one word?  It was simply “Wow!”  That was my first reaction to the book.

This book goes from terrible to adorable to shocking all within a matter of pages.  As both Hawkins and Ekedal are aware my favorite panel is in this issue, one that I have returned to numerous times simply for how adorable it is.  Now I know, to most readers a book with an adorable panel is not a selling point.  But consider this, in the midst of the ugliness of how Loren’s inventions are being used by the military, Hawkins and Ekedal manage to include a moment that is simply down to earth and to my eyes, adorable.

Take Hawkins’ writing talents and add to that Ekedal’s amazing images and you have a formula for a great story.  This duo has done nothing but impress me issue after issue.

If you haven’t been reading Think Tank my recommendation is that you remedy that oversight post haste.  You can download issue one for free here and then either pick up the trade that covers issues 1-4 and the individual issues for 5 through 7 or pick them all up on ComiXology and get caught up on this well written and beautifully rendered book.  This is is a Must Read book that has consistently earned a rating of 10/10 from this reviewer.
